Overview
A Project is a workspace for running multi-step client work: an onboarding, an account transfer, an annual review program, or an estate planning engagement. When a piece of work is too large or complex to live in a single Task or Process, a Project gives it a home.
Every Project is a container. Tasks, Processes, and Sub-projects all sit inside it, and the whole thing ties to a client so the relationship context is always there. Projects can be created from a reusable template, so a standard engagement starts the same way every time, or from a blank Project for one-off work.
This article covers how to find and create Projects, how to use the tabs within a Project record to drive work, and when to use a Project rather than a Process. For a broader overview of Work Items, see our article on Using Add Work in Sentir.

Finding Projects
On the Work Page
You can view Projects you own, Projects across your division, or all Projects at your firm in one place on the Work page.
-
Click the Navigation Menu and select Work.
-
On the Work page, click the page view selector and scroll down or search for Projects. You can select different statuses under My Projects, Projects in My Division, or All Projects.
Once you've selected a Projects view, you can change how the list is displayed using the Switch View icon in the toolbar.
Four views are available:
- List: A tabular view of Projects. Columns include Name, Entity, Status, Started, Due Date, Completed, and Owner. Sort by any column and use the search bar to filter by name.
- Card: Projects displayed as individual cards, each showing Status, Started, and Due date at a glance.
- Board: Projects arranged in columns by status — Not Started, In Progress, Completed, and Canceled. The count in each column header shows how many Projects are in that status.
- Calendar: Projects displayed on a date grid, showing where work lands over time.
To learn more about these views, see Understanding List Views in Sentir.
On an Entity Record
You can also view Projects for a specific entity directly from that entity's record.
-
From an Entity record (e.g., a Client record), click the Records tab.
-
In the left navigation rail under Work, select Projects.
The Projects section displays only the Projects associated with that entity. Use the Switch View icon to toggle between List, Card, or Calendar views.
Creating a Project
There are three ways to create a new Project in Sentir:
-
Click the Global Actions icon (the plus icon) and select Add Work.
-
Click the Add Work button on the Home page.
-
Click the Add Work button on an Entity record.
If your firm's administrator has created Project Templates, they appear in the left panel of the Add Work window, organized by group. Selecting a template pre-populates the Project Name and Description fields, adds the template's Work Items automatically, and sets a due date based on the template's configured duration. You can still edit the name and details before clicking Create.
Please note: Project Templates only appear when adding work from the Global Actions menu or the Home page if your administrator has configured them to do so. A template set up for a specific record type (such as a Client record) will only appear when you use Add Work from a record of that type, not from the Global Actions menu or Home page. If you don't see a template when adding work outside a record, contact your administrator.
To create a blank Project from the Add Work window, click + New Project at the top of the left panel.
Via Global Actions
To create a Project from anywhere via the Global Actions menu:
-
Click the Global Actions icon (the plus icon) and select Add Work.
-
In the Add Work window, click + New Project.
- Fill in the Project Details on the right side of the window:
- Enter a Project Name (required).
- Use the Assignee field to search for and assign a team member.
- Set a Due Date if the project has a target completion date.
- If you want this project to sit under a larger one, use the Parent Project field to link it.
- Add a Description to capture scope or context.
-
To add work items to the project now, click the + in the Work Items section. Search for existing processes and tasks, or click + New Task to create a new task directly. Work items can also be added after the project is created.
- Click Create.
From an Entity Record
To create a Project on an Entity record:
-
Open a Client record and click the Add Work button in the record header.
-
In the Add Work window, click + New Project.
- Fill in the Project Details on the right side of the window:
- Enter a Project Name (required).
- Use the Assignee field to search for and assign a team member.
- Set a Due Date if the project has a target completion date.
- If this project sits under a larger one, use the Parent Project field to link it.
- Add a Description to capture scope or context.
-
To add work items to the project now, click the + in the Work Items section. Search for existing processes and tasks, or click + New Task to create a new task directly. Work items can also be added after the project is created.
- Click Create.
Please note: Projects can contain other Projects. Create the parent project first, then use Add Work to create the child project and select the parent from the Parent Project field in the Project Details panel before clicking Create.
Inside a Project: The Tabs
A Project record opens on the Overview tab, which brings together the Project's tasks, processes, sub-projects, key fields, and notes in one view. From there, the full tabset gives you multiple ways to work with the Project:
- Overview
- Board
- List
- Calendar
- Timeline
- Details
- Documents
- History
Board, List, and Calendar are tabs on the Project record itself, not options in the Switch View list. Each one is a different lens on the same Work Items inside the Project.
Working the Project
Board
The Board tab displays the Project's work as cards across four columns — Not Started, In Progress, Completed, and Canceled — organized by Work Item status. Drag a card to a new column to change its status. You'll be prompted to click Change to confirm the move.
The Board header has the following controls:
- Filter pills you can click to filter the view by Work Item type or by Process.
- A Search this board... field that lets you search for Work Items by name.
- A Refresh icon to load the latest updates.
- An Enter full screen icon to open a larger view of the board.
Click the caret on a card to change an item's due date, edit it, or delete it.
List
The List tab is the sortable, filterable view of the Project's work items. Use it for bulk actions, sorting by due date or assignee, and getting a complete picture of everything in the Project in one place. The List tab has a Work Items view selector that lets you toggle between Tasks, Processes, and Projects. As with other list views, you can click a Work Item's name to open it in a new subtab.
Calendar
The Calendar tab shows the Project's date-bound work on a grid. Here you can drag and drop Work Items to different days to change their due dates. Click on any pill in the Calendar view to open the Work Item in a new subtab.
Timeline
The Timeline tab shows the Project's work laid out over time: what's happened, what's active, and what's coming up, all in a single chronological view. Use it to see how the work is sequenced across the life of the engagement. Use the filter icon to show or hide Tasks, Processes, and Projects. Click the Jump to Date button to scroll to a specific date in the Timeline.
Details
The Details tab shows the Project's core fields, organized into sections:
- Basics: Project Name, Status, Owner, and Entity (the record the Project is linked to). Click the pencil icon next to any field to edit it.
- Description: A summary of the Project's scope or purpose.
- Key Dates: Started Date, Due Date, Completed Date, and Duration in days.
- System Information: Audit fields including Owner, Last Modified By, Created By, Related Division, and Project Template (if the Project was created from a template).
Documents
The Documents tab is divided into two sections:
- Notes: Create and view Notes linked to this Project. Click the plus icon to add a new Note.
- Files: View files linked to this Project.
History
The History tab shows a Field History log that tracks changes to the Project's fields. Each row records the field name, its old value, its new value, who made the change, and when.
Project or Process?
Projects and Processes are both ways to structure work in Sentir, but they serve different purposes.
A Process runs a scenario with predefined logic. It's the right choice when the steps and any branching are known in advance: an account opening, a KYC review, a structured compliance workflow. Processes are powerful but rigid: everything has to be baked in ahead of time, and a very long, branched process is hard to maintain.
A Project is the flexible container for larger, less predictable engagements. Rather than forcing everything into one long process, you attach several smaller, focused processes to a Project and run whichever are relevant as the engagement unfolds. An estate planning engagement, for example, might involve several distinct phases, each modeled as its own process, that sit inside a single Project for the client.
Please note: A Project is the workspace; a Process is one type of Work Item that can reside within it. The two are not alternatives to each other. They work together. When in doubt, ask: Does this piece of work need predefined branching logic? If yes, it's probably a Process. Does the engagement need a container to hold several of those? That's a Project.
The Project Status Summary
Each Project includes an automatically generated status summary, a targeted, AI-written read on where the Project stands, surfaced in the Project Status component on the Overview tab. Unlike a Dispatch, the Project Summary is intended to be a focused progress check rather than a full relationship orientation.
