Using the MoneyGuide Pro Integration

Overview

The MoneyGuide Pro integration connects your Practifi instance with Envestnet | MoneyGuide’s goals-based financial planning platform, giving advisors one-click access to client financial plans directly from a Household record, keeping client conversations and prep work moving without context-switching between systems. Instead of logging in to MoneyGuide Pro separately and searching for the right client, you click a button in Practifi to go directly to the client’s plan page, already authenticated.

This article covers how to access MoneyGuide Pro from Practifi, what happens when you connect to a new or existing client, and how data flows between the two systems. For details on setting up the integration, see our Enabling the MoneyGuide Pro Integration article.

Understanding How the Integration Works

The integration uses single sign-on (SSO) to authenticate you automatically when you click the Link to MoneyGuide button on a Household record. Practifi verifies your identity using your existing credentials, then passes the client’s information to MoneyGuide Pro so the correct plan opens without any manual searching.

Practifi is the system of record for client information. Demographic data flows one way, from Practifi to MoneyGuide Pro. When you update a client’s name, email, phone number, address, or household members in Practifi, those changes are sent to MoneyGuide Pro the next time you click the Link to MoneyGuide button. MoneyGuide Pro is the system of record for financial plans. Plan data, scenarios, goals, and analysis results stay in MoneyGuide Pro and do not sync back to Practifi.

Accessing MoneyGuide Pro From Practifi

To access a client’s financial plan in MoneyGuide Pro:

  1. Navigate to the Household record for the client you want to work with.
  2. In the Highlights Panel, click the caret, then click the Link to MoneyGuide button.
  3. A confirmation message appears. Click Continue to proceed.
  4. Your browser opens MoneyGuide Pro and takes you directly to the client’s My Plans page.

From the My Plans page, you can view existing plans, create new plans, run Monte Carlo simulations, use the Play Zone for interactive planning, or access any of MoneyGuide Pro’s analysis tools. When you’re done, close the MoneyGuide Pro tab to return to Practifi.

Please note: The confirmation message is standard behavior and not an error. It confirms that you’re navigating from Practifi to an external application.

First-Time Enrollment

The first time you use the integration, MoneyGuide Pro asks you to enter your MoneyGuide Pro username and password. This is a one-time enrollment step that links your Practifi identity to your MoneyGuide Pro account.

After you enter your credentials once, MoneyGuide Pro stores them securely. All subsequent access is automatic. You will not be prompted for your MoneyGuide Pro password again unless your browser session data is cleared.

If you do not have MoneyGuide Pro credentials, contact your firm’s MoneyGuide Pro administrator or your Envestnet account manager to obtain them before your first use of the integration.

Connecting to New and Existing Clients

Existing Clients

When you click the Link to MoneyGuide button for a client who already has a record in MoneyGuide Pro, the integration matches the Practifi Household ID to the corresponding MoneyGuide Pro client record. You arrive directly on their My Plans page, with all existing plans ready to view or edit so that plan reviews can begin immediately. Any updated demographic information from Practifi is sent to MoneyGuide Pro during this handoff, ensuring the client’s contact details are always up to date.

New Clients

When you click the button for a client who does not yet exist in MoneyGuide Pro, the integration automatically creates a new client record using the demographic data from Practifi: name, email, phone, address, and household member information. No manual data entry is required. You arrive at an empty My Plans page, ready to begin building the client’s first financial plan.

This automatic record creation is especially useful during client onboarding, shortening the gap between adding a new client in Practifi and starting their first plan. As long as the client’s information is up to date in Practifi, the integration handles the rest.

Please note: The integration uses the Household ID from Practifi to match clients. Always access MoneyGuide Pro from the correct Household record to ensure you’re working with the right client.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need a Separate MoneyGuide Pro Password?

You need your MoneyGuide Pro credentials for the one-time enrollment, but you will not need to enter them again after that. All subsequent access automatically uses your Practifi login.

What Data Syncs Between the Two Systems?

Client demographic information (name, email, phone, address, and household members) flows from Practifi to MoneyGuide Pro each time you click the Link to MoneyGuide button. Financial plan data, goals, scenarios, and analysis results stay in MoneyGuide Pro and do not sync back to Practifi.

What If I Update Client Information in Practifi While I’m Already in MoneyGuide Pro?

Changes made in Practifi take effect the next time you click the Link to MoneyGuide button. If you’re already viewing the client’s plan, close the MoneyGuide Pro tab, return to the Household record in Practifi, and click the button again to send the updated information.

Can Multiple Advisors Access the Same Client’s Plan?

Yes. Multiple advisors can access the same client’s plan through the integration. However, if two advisors edit the plan simultaneously, you may encounter conflicts. Your firm should establish guidelines for who is responsible for editing each client’s plan.

Why Don’t I See the Link to the MoneyGuide Button?

The button requires specific permission sets that your System Administrator must assign. If you don’t see it on a Household record, contact your administrator and ask them to verify your permission set assignments.

Why Am I Being Asked for My MoneyGuide Pro Password Again?

This usually happens when your browser cache or cookies have been cleared. Enter your credentials again, and subsequent access should be automatic. If you’re prompted every time, contact Practifi Support.

Is the Integration Available on All Practifi Versions?

The MoneyGuide Pro integration is available for Practifi Lightning organizations. If your organization is on an earlier version, the integration is not available. Contact your System Administrator or Practifi Support for details.
