Installing and Configuring the SMS Magic Integration - SPA

Practifi's integration with SMS Magic allows you to send an ad hoc SMS directly to a client from the Interactions tab. For example, you may like to invite a longstanding client to a VIP seminar.

This guide will take you through the following steps to install and configure the integration:

  1. Sign up for SMS Magic
  2. Install SMS Magic
  3. Set up your SMS Magic account
  4. Configure a template type
  5. Create a template
  6. Set up a workflow
  7. Create a workflow rule and task action
  8. Activate the Interaction method

Sign up for an SMS Magic account:

In order to use this integration, you will need to be an existing customer of SMS Magic. You can sign up for an account here (also ensure you purchase an incoming number). For up to date pricing information for Practifi clients, please contact us. 

Install SMS Magic:

Install the SMS Magic app from the SMS Magic AppExchange listing (links to their resources and knowledge base can be found in the details tab of the listing). 

Set Up SMS Magic:

You may have been taken through the setup process immediately after installing SMS Magic. However, if not:

  1. Go to Salesforce Setup (represented by  ) in the Settings menu (top right menu).
  2. Click the  in the nav menu to show all tabs.
  3. Click the "SMS - Home" tab.

The above steps are assisted by SMS Magic. Please contact them for further help.

Set up Workflow:

  1. Go to Salesforce setup (represented by ) in the Practifi Settings menu (top right menu).
  2. Click the  in the nav menu to show all tabs.
  3. Click the "SMS on Workflow" tab.
  4. Click the blue New SMS Workflow button and enter the following fields:
    • Lookup object: Interaction.
    • Recipient type : Mobile phone field.
    • Selected recipients: Related Person Mobile Phone.
    • Name: Related Person First Name.
    • SenderID: Default (this would have been set during the Getting Started step).
    • Template: Select a template (e.g. the template you created earlier - Ad Hoc SMS).
  5. Click Create.
  6. Copy the Configuration Name that is generated to your clipboard.

Create a Workflow Rule and Task Action:

  1. In Salesforce, click 'Setup' (top right of page).
  2. Go to Build -> Create -> Workflow & Approvals -> Workflow Rules.
  3. Click the New Rule button.
  4. Enter the following field values:
    • Object: Interaction.
    • Rule Name: Give it a name (e.g. Ad Hoc SMS).
    • Description: Explain what it does (e.g. Send the client an SMS).
    • Evaluation Criteria: ‘created, and any time it's edited to subsequently meet criteria’.
    • Rule Criteria: Set up the rule so that Interaction Method Group Code equals INTYSMS.
    • Click Save and Next.
    • Click the Add Workflow Action button.
    • Select New Task and complete the fields:
    • Assigned To: select who you want to assign this to.
    • Subject: Ad Hoc SMS.
    • Unique Name: This will automatically be set to the same value as the Subject.
    • Due Date: Rule Trigger Date.
    • Status: Completed.
    • Priority: Normal.
    • Comments: Paste the Configuration Name that you previously copied to your clipboard.
    • Click Save.
    • Click Done.
    • Click the Activate button.

Activate the Interaction Method

Finally, to use the integration you will need to activate the SMS Method:

  1. Go to Practifi Settings.
  2. Click on the Categories tab.
  3. Select Interaction Method from the picklist.
  4. Filter for Inactive Only.
  5. Edit the SMS Method and click the Active checkbox. 
  6. Click Save.

You should now be able to use the SMS Magic integration.
