Overview
The Feed is a collaborative tool where team members can @mention each other and provide ongoing commentary and updates within the context of a client. This functionality allows the team to collaborate around a Client record and removes the dependency on email. The Feed enables a quick view of everything related to a Client, including notes, text, uploaded documents, and files.
Keeping all commentary in one central place makes managing internal communication and tasks significantly easier, more efficient, and effective. Feed posts are organized by topic and listed in chronological order, with replies grouped to encourage conversation among team members. The Feed also helps with compliance, tracks important client changes, and stores file notes, statements, and other key documentation to support audit readiness.
This article walks you through the features of the Feed. For administrator-level instructions on configuring the Feed, please see Managing the Feed.
Accessing the Feed
Opening the Feed on an Entity Record
You can access the Feed by clicking the Feed navigation icon on a Household, Individual, or Organization record in the record side panel.
Clicking this icon in the side panel opens the Feed. It displays any posts made to the Entity record, as well as related records, such as tasks for the household, individual, or organization.
Feed Component on Task and Event Record Page Sidebar
As of the April 2024 Montepulciano release, the Feed component is available in the sidebar on Task and Event record pages. When a Task or Event record page is opened, you will see the Feed included in the sidebar on the right-hand side of the screen. From here, you can quickly post updates about a Task or Event without leaving the tab you're working in. Click the Feed component in the sidebar to expand or collapse it as needed.
Please note: If your firm's organization has not been upgraded to the Montepulciano release, you cannot view this functionality in your Practifi instance.
Viewing a Record-Specific Feed
The Feed can also be accessed on certain records by clicking the Feed subtab. Clicking this subtab displays all Feed posts related to a specific record, rather than all posts made at the household, individual, or organization level.
Posts added within the Feed subtab of a record, such as a process task, flow through to the main Feed section of the related Entity.
Feed Features
Once accessed from either of the locations above, the Feed page will display the following features:
- In this text space, write the update or information needed to share across your firm. To link to a record, enter / then start typing the record name. As you type the record name after the forward slash, suggestions will appear. Select the record name from these options to attach the record to your Feed post.
- Edit the text by using the options in the formatting bar to bold, italicize, underline, or strikethrough text. The last text option button will remove all text formatting selections. You also have the option to format text into bulleted and numbered lists by using the list buttons.
- Add photos, links, emojis, and tag users with these buttons. Tag a user in the text space to receive a notification by using the tag button or typing @ followed by a team member's name.
- Attach files, such as meeting notes, to the post using this button. Files attached to a Feed post can be either existing files in your org or new files uploaded through the option that appears when you click this button.
- Share the Feed post by clicking this button. Sharing the post will add it to the Feed display and notify any team members mentioned in the post.
- Feed display is where all posts related to the Household, Individual, or Organization currently viewed will display.
Posts made on the Feed will also display on the Chatter page, where you can view posts made company-wide, along with any draft or bookmarked posts.
On the Feed page, posts will display in chronological order based on the selected sort, such as Top Posts or Most Recent Activity, with the latest posts appearing at the top of the Feed. The options on the left-hand side of the Feed change which posts are displayed based on the selection made. Any streams or recent groups you have created or subscribed to will appear below the view selections.
Feed Considerations
- Currently, the size limit for files attached to Feed posts and comments is 2 GB. Salesforce sets this size limit, and it cannot be changed.
- As of the Montepulciano release of April 2024, the main Feed component on Entity records displays exact timestamps of posts for improved transparency and accountability. Feed posts displayed in the side panel of Task and Event records will display rounded timestamps (e.g., 4 years ago) instead of the exact date and time of the post. To see this functionality, your firm's Practifi instance must be upgraded to the Montepulciano release.
- The ability to edit and delete your own posts and the option to manage posts on records you own are controlled by user permissions. Practifi Administrators set these.
- Feed mentions and post notifications will display within your notification bell in the top-right corner of Practifi. These notifications will remain in the notification bell drop-down menu even after being marked as read.
- The Feed feature is visible in recurring tasks, but a known Salesforce limitation prevents it from functioning when multiple records are created at once.
